Every trade needs its own fountainhead of information and know-how. With this in mind, the Research Institute for Newspaper Development (RIND) was established by seven stalwart newspaper publishers and editors. What was but a concept, 25 years ago, is today a full-fledged and multi-pronged activity house. Beginning with the usage of KENAF newsprint, RIND has taken on the responsibility of keeping the newspaper industry abreast of the world through a dual strategy. One, by way of seminars and workshops, and the other through RIND Survey, the monthly publication. The professionalism and potency of RIND’s activities have won it acclaim not just in national circles, but international as well. In 2002, RIND received recognition from IFRA, the world’s leading association of newspapers and media technology, headquartered in Darmstadt, Germany. IFRA, chose RIND as its Associate in India and started providing select content every month to RIND Survey, covering every aspect of newspaper production and other various issues relating to the industry in India. It was a proud moment in the history of Rind when Mr.Reiner Mittlebach, CEO – Ifra, Germany, inaugurated the Ifra-Rind Materials Testing Laboratory, in the RIND premises, on January 21, 2007. The lab has now become popular with many leading newspapers in our country, many of whom use the facility for testing the basic characteristics, printability testing, optical characteristics of newsprint and fineness of ink grind.
